Krupps Point
About this tag
Krupp’s Point is one of Iroquois Park’s old hilltop overlooks, its little 1889 marker preserving a story from the park’s earliest days. The point was named for a Bavarian immigrant who rose from butcher and brickyard worker to owner of a large brickmaking and construction business, building roads, sewers, and other Louisville infrastructure. A friend of the mayor who helped establish the park, his company is believed to have built the road leading to this overlook. He died suddenly in 1890 — reportedly after refusing an amputation following a snake bite — just a year before Olmsted arrived in Louisville.
