Up And Over
About this tag
Second visit, and the “bridge to nowhere” turns out to have a missing neighborhood on the other side. Highland Park once stood beyond Crittenden, with nearly 7,000 residents by 1950, before the Watterson, fairgrounds, and airport expansion steadily erased it. Louisville is now planning Bike Highland Park on that same ground beneath I-264, deliberately borrowing the vanished neighborhood’s name. The bike park has since made it through design and into construction bidding.
