The Sunflower Serpent is one of several strange creatures hiding in this tiny neighborhood park, but it has a practical origin. After storms brought down several large trees here, some of the fallen wood was turned into sculptures instead of simply hauled away. The serpent joined an owl, a bridge troll, and other carvings scattered through the grounds. That feels appropriate for a park that was itself rescued from an unwanted, overgrown scrap of land: even the trees that fell down were given another job.
