This is one of Damon Thompson’s garage-door portraits, part of the burst of murals he started painting around Louisville during the 2020 shutdown. He focused heavily on notable women, calling them “faces of triumph.” Ella Fitzgerald has a small Louisville connection of her own too. In 1940, she and her Famous Orchestra recorded a song called “Louisville, K-Y.”
