This tower marks the old home of Portland Avenue Presbyterian Church, a congregation founded in 1855. Its brick church was begun in 1892 and dedicated the next year, then restored for the congregation’s 150th anniversary in 2005. Just four years later, a major fire devastated the sanctuary and its historic interior. The congregation survived and now worships nearby at 3126 Portland Avenue.
