Conrad-Caldwell House Museum
About this tag
The entrance is a pretty good preview of how little restraint went into the Conrad-Caldwell House. Built in 1893–95, the Richardsonian Romanesque mansion is wrapped in Bedford limestone with huge arches, twisted columns, and carvings that include lions, griffins, and cherubs. Inside, things don’t calm down much. Seven kinds of hardwood went into the house, along with parquet floors, stained glass, and sets of pocket doors weighing about 400 pounds each.
