Swiss Cleaners operated here from 1914 to 1989, and a 1928 photo shows a surprisingly elaborate Tudor Revival laundry and dry cleaner at 909 S. Sixth, complete with awnings and a big illuminated sign. The business closed decades ago and the building is gone. Cleanup of dry-cleaning solvents beneath the property began in the 1990s, and the site remained vacant afterward. Somehow, “Have a happy day!” survived as one of the last visible reminders of what used to be here.
