Down in the concrete channel beneath Swan Street, someone had written Breonna Taylor into a part of Louisville that was never meant to be a memorial. “Say Her Name” had already become a chant, a demand, and a recurring piece of public art across the city after her killing in 2020. I never found out who made this particular piece, and maybe that is part of what stays with me: her name appearing not on a monument or museum wall, but in an ordinary, half-hidden piece of city infrastructure. Never forget.
