Manly Gymnasium Revisited
About this tag
Second visit, so here’s the history before Manly. The building opened in 1892 as duPont Manual Training High School, created to teach boys industrial and mechanical skills. Manual left after merging with Louisville Girls High in 1950, and Manly Junior High moved into the old Brook and Oak campus soon afterward. Historic records sometimes give its fuller name as Henry B. Manly Junior High, although Henry B. Manly himself is surprisingly difficult to identify. The surviving gate preserves the name of the building’s second life rather than its first.
