Speed School itself seems happy to call this exactly what it looks like: “the red beam sculpture on Duthie patio.” It’s even been used as a stop in a welcome-week scavenger hunt for engineering students. The Duthie Center behind it dates to 1946 and started life as the Institute of Industrial Research before becoming an engineering library. A major 2009 renovation turned it into the present Duthie Center and earned UofL its first LEED certification for a renovated building.
