RiverPark Place Marina
About this tag
The marina looks like part of Louisville’s newer riverfront redevelopment, but boats were sheltering here long before the apartments arrived. Towhead Island forms a natural breakwater, and the protected water behind it served for years as Louisville’s old municipal boat harbor. The present marina grew out of redevelopment plans that took decades — and one financial crisis — to become reality, eventually replacing the old harbor with roughly 150 slips and a public riverfront promenade. New docks, same basic reason for being here: the river happened to leave Louisville a particularly convenient little pocket for boats.
