Dismas Charities 7th Street
About this tag
That surprisingly grand stone building was originally the front office of the Seagram/Calvert Distillery, a sprawling post-Prohibition complex built in 1936–37. Joseph & Joseph gave the office its columned Regency Revival look while the industrial buildings behind it leaned Art Deco. Seagram shut the plant in 1983. Today the office is the headquarters of Dismas Charities, a Louisville-founded nonprofit that helps people reenter society after incarceration. Dismas started here in 1964 as a 15-bed halfway house.
