I-264 can feel like a moat on a bike, which makes little crossings like Curtis Avenue unusually useful. Curtis slips under the Watterson on a residential street instead of forcing a rider onto one of the bigger arterial crossings. Louisville’s Bicycle Master Plan even included this stretch in a proposed neighborway route connecting the Male High and Zoo area. The Watterson roughly marks the edge of Louisville’s older urban street grid, so finding a quiet way through it can make a surprisingly big difference in how the city fits together by bike.
