Shelby Parkway Lot
About this tag
This vacant lot was once the LAVA House, the Louisville Assembly of Vanguard Art. From 2001 until it burned in 2008, the warehouse at 927 Shelby Parkway was a home and gathering place for artists, musicians and assorted Louisville weirdos. There was even a cycling connection. One resident built customized bikes there and rode with a crew called the Louisville Bike Goblins. Most of that history had disappeared by the time this was tagged, leaving the nearby Hope Worsted Mills smokestack and water tower as handy landmarks for triangulating an otherwise anonymous patch of ground.
