Jones Dabney Co Laboratory
About this tag
This odd little laboratory is the last historic building left from athe Rhodia chemical-manufacturing complex that once filled this site. Built in the 1930s for a company making varnishes, lacquers, enamels, and resins, it is also considered Louisville’s only surviving example of Art Moderne architecture. The surrounding factory disappeared, and the property spent decades vacant as a contaminated brownfield. Happily, current redevelopment plans call for preserving the laboratory while the land around it becomes affordable housing and commercial space.
