The Peterson-Dumesnil House started out in 1869 as a country retreat for tobacco merchant Joseph Peterson, back when this part of Crescent Hill still felt well outside the city. It originally sat on about 31 acres, while the neighborhood eventually grew up around it. The house later had an odd second life as a private club for Louisville teachers, reportedly the only one of its kind in the country. Now it’s one of the few survivors from Crescent Hill’s old estate days.
