The alley behind Spinelli’s feels less like one mural than a wall with an ongoing graffiti history. Louisville Metro’s art inventory lists the Highlands piece simply as Untitled (Spinelli’s Pizzeria Highlands), a 2019 spray-paint work by “Various Artists”—which may be about as precise an attribution as this place wants. Spinelli’s has deep ties to Louisville’s graffiti scene: the gathering now called the 2BUCK Invitational began as the All-City Art Event, with Spinelli’s locations among its early painting sites. So the unknown authorship isn’t quite a dead end. The layers of graffiti are part of the story.
