This overpass always looked absurdly specific: a whole bridge over I-71 seemingly built to deliver traffic to a handful of houses. The history makes it a little less ridiculous. Poplar Hill Road existed before the interstate, with access rights documented around the same time I-71 was being built through Louisville in the late 1960s. The bridge appears to have preserved that older route rather than being constructed later as a deluxe entrance to the neighborhood. The big houses came afterward. What looks like extravagant infrastructure is really a leftover seam where a new freeway sliced across an older landscape.
