Shirley's Arbor Park
About this tag
“Surely we can find this place” was the groan-worthy clue, but the park itself has a better trick hidden underneath it. What looks like an ordinary neighborhood green space was built partly as flood-control infrastructure: runoff from several surrounding neighborhoods is directed into a large detention system here instead of streets and basements. The city turned that necessary drainage project into fourteen acres of walking paths, trees, exercise stations, and eventually a playground.
