The clue was the big mature tree tucked into the courtyard at Clifton Lofts, above the Frankfort Avenue storefronts. The condos were built in 2006 on the former sites of two houses at 2011 and 2019 Frankfort Avenue. Those houses had been demolished in 2003, just before Clifton’s stronger historic-district protections took hold. The tree’s own history is harder to pin down, but the shaded courtyard has become one of the building’s defining features.
