Workhouse Ballroom
About this tag
The Workhouse Ballroom is one of those Louisville places that sounds made up until you learn it is literally a music venue in a cave. The space was once used for whiskey storage, later filled with mud and debris, and eventually cleaned out and repurposed for concerts and art. For a while it hosted the kind of events that suited the setting perfectly: small performances, projections, lasers, experimental shows. One 2015 event there even helped inspire the visual design of a Louisville Ballet production. It has seemed much quieter in recent years, which only adds to the feeling that this strange room in the hillside is hiding in plain sight.
