WAVE’s little garden is not just landscaping around a television station. It dates back to the station’s move here in 1959, when the new studio complex was furnished with commissioned artwork and an outdoor sculpture garden; several of those mid-century pieces are still documented today. The frustrating part is the presentation. This was historically described as a public garden, yet by the time of this tag the moon-and-stars piece was something to admire from behind a fence. Public art feels a little less public when you have to look at it through security infrastructure.
