St Marks Red Doors
About this tag
Those red doors are more than a handy Bike Tag landmark. They’re a common Episcopal tradition, though there’s no single agreed explanation for them. Red has been associated with sanctuary and refuge, the blood of Christ, and the Holy Spirit, and over time it became something of an unofficial Episcopal calling card. St. Mark’s has been at Frankfort and Kennedy for at least a century. A University of Louisville photograph shows the church on this corner in 1925.
