This court had only been open about six months when Bike Tag reached it. The renovation turned Shively’s only public outdoor basketball court into a giant piece of playable artwork, built around the message “Reaching for the Stars” and meant to encourage the next generation of players. Getting there by bicycle was considerably less inspirational. The park sits just off Dixie Highway, a corridor Louisville’s own planning documents have long described as hostile territory for cycling, with heavy traffic and little dedicated bike infrastructure. A beautiful public court in a place that still makes arriving without a car feel unnecessarily adventurous.
