This gate isn't just an entrance to the creek. State construction plans identify MSD ramps near Logan Street as vehicle access points into the South Fork Beargrass Creek channel for maintenance work. The creek through this part of town is itself heavily engineered, running through the concrete flood-control channel built along the lower South Fork during the first half of the 20th century. Nearby, the Logan Street sewer-overflow basin can hold nearly 17 million gallons underground.
