This was the first of four times Bike Tag would eventually return to this creature, which apparently has some unexplained gravitational pull on cyclists. “Merhorse” is not far off: despite being routinely mistaken for Pegasus, River Horse was deliberately given both wings and a fish’s tail, making it a creature of the Ohio as much as the sky. The enormous bronze was assembled from 43 separate sections and intended as a symbol of Louisville. So the oddness is not accidental. Somebody really did decide the city needed a giant airborne river-horse fountain, and Bike Tag players apparently agreed.
