The Shawnee Park boat ramp was completed as part of the West Louisville Outdoor Recreation Initiative, with the city’s parks history placing the new ramp in 2021. Earlier planning documents show that a ramp here had been discussed for years because of the difficult riverbank and shallow conditions along the Portland Sand Bar. I’ve rarely seen an actual boat launched from it, but people fish nearby all the time, and for cyclists it has become something else entirely. Sitting right on the Riverwalk and Louisville Loop, it’s an easy place for casual rides to stop, regroup, and stare at the Ohio for a while.
