River Horse didn’t stay away for long. This was Bike Tag’s second visit to Barney Bright’s downtown creature, already starting what would become a habit of turning up again. One detail worth adding this time: Ed Hamilton assisted Bright on the 1973 sculpture. Hamilton went on to become a nationally known monument sculptor, with works including Louisville’s York and Lincoln. So the giant winged river-horse also sits near the beginning of another major Louisville artist’s career.
