Howard Steamboat Museum
About this tag
The Howard Steamboat Museum announces itself with a giant paddlewheel in the yard, but the best part is that it is not just a prop. At its center is the original 22-ton paddlewheel shaft from the Delta Queen, removed after it cracked in 1980. The wooden wheel around it was added later so people could actually see what that enormous chunk of steel once did. It is a fitting introduction to a museum housed in the former home of a family whose nearby shipyard spent generations building steamboats on the Ohio.
