Industrial Artifact
About this tag
This rusty column makes much more sense once you know the office park around it used to be a railroad-car factory. Water Tower Square incorporates remnants of a huge industrial complex that built freight and passenger cars here beginning in the nineteenth century, before the property was gradually repurposed for offices, warehouses, and other businesses. Whether this particular hunk of metal actually belongs to that history is harder to prove. It simply stands there looking extremely convinced that it does — a stray industrial punctuation mark left in the middle of a commercial park.
