Lou Gehrig Bench
About this tag
This marker is part of the Louisville Slugger Walk of Fame, but Gehrig also actually played in Louisville. On October 24, 1928, he and Babe Ruth brought a benefit exhibition to Parkway Field, then Louisville’s minor-league ballpark on what is now the University of Louisville’s Belknap Campus. Local players filled out the rosters for Gehrig’s “Larrupin’ Lous” and Ruth’s “Bustin’ Babes.” The game came just weeks after their Yankees swept the Cardinals in the World Series.
