The anchor is quite literally the Portland Anchor. This former Boys & Girls Club was where the neighborhood newspaper got its start in the 1970s, created to give Portland residents their own voice and push back against ugly outside portrayals of the neighborhood. In 2021, an 8-foot, 1,800-pound anchor found by scuba divers in Florida was hauled from New Jersey to Louisville and planted out front. The building later became the permanent home of Dream Center Academy in 2026.
