Birdie & Vi’s feels like a very modern Louisville hybrid — part bar, part antique shop — but the building has been doing versions of this for much longer than the current business suggests. By the 1940s it was the Magnolia Inn, a neighborhood bar serving the nearby Black Hills community. After that closed, the building spent years mostly as storage before being rehabilitated and brought back to life. Its present mix of drinks, vintage goods, and salvaged character feels less like a quirky new concept than the latest chapter in a place that has already spent decades being reused, repurposed, and filled with other people’s stuff.
