The Little Dog Library started as a memorial to Layla and Abigail, two neighborhood dogs whose owners wanted to leave something useful behind. Since at least 2022, people have been stopping here to take or leave toys, treats, food, coats and other dog supplies. Abigail apparently loved sitting in the yard and greeting every dog that passed, so the location carries that tradition on pretty well. When a windstorm later damaged the library, a neighbor and his granddaughter rebuilt it themselves.
