Our Lady La-Vang
About this tag
This is the Our Lady of La Vang shrine at St. John Vianney, built in 2001 as Louisville’s Vietnamese Catholic community became a major part of the parish. The devotion comes from La Vang, Vietnam, where tradition holds that the Virgin Mary appeared to persecuted Catholics in 1798. Louisville’s shrine includes a seven-foot statue by local artist Le Pham. It turns out to be one of the clearest markers of the Vietnamese community that took root around this part of South Louisville.
