On a map, this did not look especially far away. By bike, it felt like an expedition. Smyrna Elementary sits in a part of Louisville where major roads, interstate crossings, and missing bike connections force cyclists into long, indirect routes for trips that ought to be simple. Louisville’s own transportation plans have spent years proposing shared-use paths along nearby corridors for exactly that reason. The playground itself was ordinary; getting there was the memorable part. Bike Tag had a way of revealing not just obscure places, but the invisible distances created when a city is stitched together mainly for cars.
