About this tag

This Totoro on Alta Avenue started life as a tree and became one of the Highlands’ better bits of front-yard art around 2022. Local residents identify Thomas Brown as the carver, and people who lived nearby got to watch the character emerge from the trunk day by day. Totoro is a forest spirit in Hayao Miyazaki’s 1988 film, so turning a dead tree into one is almost suspiciously perfect.
