Irish Hill Goats
About this tag
Not everyone knows goats live here. Stranger still, they have historical precedent. This stretch of Payne Street was once known as Billy Goat Hill, where more than 200 goats grazed the rocky hillside beginning at least as far back as the 1880s. The herd became enough of a neighborhood identity that a nearby subdivision was optimistically christened Angora Heights, though locals preferred the goatier name. The modern goats that made this Bike Tag feel like a little urban secret were, whether anyone intended it or not, occupying remarkably appropriate ground.
