Little Sisters of the Poor Grotto
About this tag
This little grotto always felt like one of Louisville’s rarer religious oddities, though there are actually several others scattered around the city. What remains elusive is the story of this particular one. The Little Sisters of the Poor have cared for elderly Louisvillians since 1869, and their present St. Joseph’s Home dates to 1991, but I could find no reliable account of when this grotto appeared or who built it. For something so deliberately made as a place of contemplation, it has done a remarkably good job of keeping its own history quiet.
