The ornate gate makes more sense once you know how long Sacred Heart has been here. The Ursuline Sisters bought a farm along what was then Workhouse Road and opened the Academy of the Sacred Heart on the property in 1877. That little beginning eventually grew into today's 48-acre Ursuline Campus. Old photos show that turrets, pinnacles, crosses, and other decorative touches have been part of the place for generations, though the age of this particular gate is harder to pin down.
