St James Court Fountain
About this tag
St. James Court’s fountain sits near the center of what was once the Southern Exposition grounds, then became one of Louisville’s showpiece residential courts. The fountain itself dates back to the neighborhood’s nineteenth-century beginnings, but the version standing there today was recast in the 1970s. Even the fence has a second life: its ironwork was salvaged from the old Strand Theater downtown before that building disappeared. It looks like one perfectly preserved Victorian scene, but it is really a small pileup of Louisville histories pretending to be seamless.
