About this tag

Two enormous limestone hands clasp overhead to form Opportunity Portal, a sculpture meant to represent partnership between the neighborhood and the organizations inside. The Nia Center itself is a practical resource hub for jobs, small businesses, transit help, licensing, and other services. A critical resource, certainly, but architecturally a little anticlimactic after walking beneath a fifteen-foot handshake. The name “Nia” means “purpose,” and the doorway seems determined to make sure you feel some before you even get inside.
