Baptist Tabernacle started a few blocks east of here as the 26th and Market Street Baptist Mission in 1890, becoming an independent church three years later. The name Baptist Tabernacle came in 1909. By 1954 the congregation had outgrown its old buildings, so members marched up Market Street together to their new church at 30th and Market. More than seventy years later, the building is still being used for worship.
