The Legend of Pan
About this tag
This little Pan has a much stranger family history than the park around him suggests. The sculpture was first cast in the 1970s for the Belvedere downtown, where it was stolen. A replacement was installed, and that one disappeared too. Another casting eventually found a quieter home in Kennedy Court Park, where it has apparently had better luck staying put. The park itself was created after the 1974 tornado destroyed the house that once stood here. A small neighborhood green space ended up becoming the safe house for one of Louisville’s more persistently disappearing sculptures.
