I still can’t find a documented reason for the cannon, which somehow makes it better. Douglass Park only became a city park in 1973, after the property had spent decades as the Kentucky Home School for Girls. Whatever the cannon’s origin, it’s distinctive enough that a 2022 Louisville Classical Academy newsletter told families to meet at a place it called “Cannon Park.” Apparently the neighborhood has accepted that the cannon is canon.
