This mural sits along the side of New Albany Tavern, in a building that has already cycled through another bar and a major renovation. The artist and installation date remain hard to trace, but the placement does most of the work: Bourdain built a career around the idea that the interesting part of a city often begins after you leave the polished dining room and follow somebody through the side door. Anthony Bourdain never made Louisville an episode of No Reservations, though he did visit the city for speaking appearances in 2009 and 2012. His connection here grew stronger after his death, when local chefs began gathering in his name to raise money for mental-health support in the service industry.
