Home of Anne & Carl Braden
About this tag
A fairly ordinary-looking house carries an unusually heavy piece of Louisville history. In the 1950s, the couple who lived here helped a Black family buy a home in a segregated suburb, drawing threats and demonstrations to their own doorstep. The house later became a meeting place and waystation for civil-rights organizers during the 1960s. Without the historical marker out front, it would be easy to ride past without realizing how much organizing, controversy, and movement history passed through this address.
