“We ♥ Belknap” is not exactly subtle neighborhood branding, but subtlety was never really the point. Belknap has spent decades cultivating a strong visual identity, from its neighborhood logo to its annual festival and the little markers scattered around its streets. This painted fence behind the Dundee bar fits right into that tradition: less public-art mystery than civic affection rendered at backyard scale. Some neighborhoods get gateway signs. Belknap apparently decided a fence could do the job just as well.
